A day before the birth of this piece, I finished the spinning machine which I made together with Laura’s uncle. He’s a real handyman. The kind you visit with a picture of something and the wise words “Can you make me something like this?”. Unfortunately for him he has a sign next to his workplace saying ‘If dad can’t fix it, noone can’. A fathers day present from his kids which I won’t hesitate to abuse. The same night I had attached a small canvas with non-diluted paint. This very first work may be feed for another day. Chronological order is slightly overrated. I much prefer integrating one of my favorite things in this world to my first post: our caique parrot which goes by the name of Frodo, or Mr. Frodo for formal occasions.

As I am now doing with this post, I did the same with my first work where I diluted the paint to flow more freely. The colors I chose were colors based on our homey. His four main colors are orange, green, yellow and white. I was hoping to see this reflected in the result of this session but the mixing of paint decided otherwise. I started out making a black background. The idea was to create a mixture of lines where the spinning of the canvas creates coherent structures. On the ceiling I hung a bucket which I filled with three colors: orange, yellow and green. Unfortunately they didn’t come out as planned. Where I was hoping to achieve a fluid motion of these three colors, I ended up with a blend of mainly orange and yellow. I really missed the green color and because the idea was to use all three, I couldn’t stop with the canvas not having a clear shade of green. Yeah, kill your darlings, a phrase thaught in communications class I still need to learn. The issue with this desire was that in order to add some green color to the canvas, I had to let the orange and yellow paint flow out completely, which resulted in a loaded canvas. Seeing this I had only one thing in mind: spin that canvas right right round like a record baby. Thank you Dead or Alive for the lyrics, and I mean the band, not the game which gives new meaning to less is more. A concept which is totally opposite to this piece of work. A piece which doesn’t go by unnoticed when passing by.
