Something that has always troubled me in my life, is that I like a lot of different things. This is a good thing right? Well, for someone who always tries to excel in what he does, and wants to prove himself, this isn't very practical. Whenever I start something, I go beast mode in getting better real quick, but after a while I find something else which grabs my attention. So, I then move on from one thing to the other. As a result I am a-okay in a lot of things, but I won't become the best in just one thing. For long I was bothered by this, until recently I learned to appreciate my taste in various things and activities. It's also the main reason as to why I started to create this thing called modular art. What is modular art? Well, if you ask Oxford Languages they'll give you the following definition of the word modular: "employing or involving a module or modules as the basis of design or construction". When applying this to my practices, it means that for a piece of art to be complete, you would have to combine several singular modules, being paintings. They can stand alone, I mean, they're already awesome as such, but the true beauty lies in combining multiple paintings. The true goal is to have a huge amount of paintings in this modular style. When someone is interested they can then explore the variety of colors and get creative themselves. It's awesome to see which combinations people like, and since it is so personal, why take away the fun of combining paintings? When you go to an interior store you also buy single pieces which you think go good together, right? So join in on the fun and create your own unique set. Another big advantage about working with modular art, is that if in the rare case you would get bored by the combination, you can turn or switch paintings. The colors will of course remain the same, but you get a whole other vibe by re-assembling the same paintings. And if that won't do, you can create something new by replacing one or more. I can assure you the possibilities will be endless, because that will be my doing. I am over the moon about these first series I have created, and I'm laser focused on creating more of these. For these series I have created a lot of 'one base color' paintings, but if you saw some of my past works, for example 'Silver lining', you have noticed how awesome it is if you don't focus around just one base color but multiple.

So in short: I create modular art because it reflects a huge part who I was in often switching things up and trying out different stuff. This probably is the biggest reason why I am so in love with this kind of art. In contradiction to my past I am focused on a fixed set of goals right now, so I'm trying to use my past to better both my present and future. Because let's be honest: it's fun trying out a zillion different things, but it's more satisfying finding something you adore and spending most of your time perfecting it.

Below my very first 4-piece combination I found in my phone. If only my walls were big enough to try out a 9-piece square.. one day..
